About
What exactly is the Green Trophy Project and who are we?? The Green Trophy Project was created by caring individuals in the awards and trophy industry who are concerned that perfectly good trophies, plaques, medals and other awards are being disposed of in our nation’s landfills.
The contributors of this blog and website have all been in the awards and trophy industry. We have all been asked over the years what could be done with wayward awards that have been received over the years. Be it a son or daughter that have accumulated trophies from their extracurricular activities and sports or those bowling trophies that you and your spouse won in the annual bowling tournament…We take them in and prevent them from ending up in landfills.
What is done with these items you might ask? There are two ways we work with your trophies and it is all based upon the condition of how we receive them:
- Break them down for parts. We first take off the faceplates (the engraved plate with your information). These plates are normally made of either aluminum or brass. Both of these metals are very desirable and very much recycled into new products. The bases are either actual marble or a plastic composite that we can reuse on other trophies – we can even polish out minor chips to reuse them on other trophies. The tubes/columns are reusable as are the figures (either metal or plastic) on other trophies. Lastly, the connecting rods and nuts are always reusable.
- If the trophies are in perfect condition upon arrival, we can just pull off the nameplate and recycle the metal. We next cut a new plate and engrave it to end up turning it over to a new smiling child who would not have the opportunity for such an award.
